One of my older brothers lives in Arizona. Southwest Airlines always seems to be the best choice when I fly to visit him.
I like Southwest, and many other people seem to agree. The price is right. Bags fly free. And the business makes money in an industry where many others do not.
I read an article about Southwest in the Harvard Business Review that talked about how Southwest hires people. And I love it. Â
At Southwest, for example, we talk about hiring not for skills but three attributes: a warrior spirit (that is, a desire to excel, act with courage, persevere and innovate); a servantâÂÂs heart (the ability to put others first, treat everyone with respect and proactively serve customers); and a fun-loving attitude (passion, joy and an aversion to taking oneself too seriously.)
Those attributes are wonderful. If you read the rest of the article, you'll see that Southwest pushes those attributes into job ads, job descriptions, bonus incentives, and more.Â
So, here are a few questions.
- Does your credit union have consistent characteristics that you seek in every job candidate?
- If so, are they embedded in job descriptions, job ads, and bonus structure?
Enjoy your Thursday, everyone.
