Now streaming: Latest CUPP episode highlights NCUA examinations, supervisory priorities

On the final episode of the year for NAFCU’s Credit Union Policy Podcast (CUPP), host and NAFCU Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Ann Petros talks with former NCUA Executive Director and Examiner Mark Treichel about the NCUA’s examination process and what to expect for the agency’s supervisory priorities in 2023.

In the podcast’s 10th episode, Treichel and Petros dive into recent trends in NCUA examinations and discuss the impact of the agency’s shift to virtual exams and what the future of exams may look like.

The pair also spent time discussing some of the successes and challenges associated with the implementation of the Modern Examination Risk Identification Tool (MERIT), of which NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger highlighted the mismanagement and ballooning cost of the tool in a recent op-ed in American Banker. Treichel also provided insight into potential topics on the NCUA’s list of supervisory priorities for 2023.
