NAFCU's Berger, Hunt, and Thaler recognized as top lobbyists in The Hill
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt, and Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler were named top association lobbyists for 2019 by The Hill, a daily newspaper covering Congress and Washington, D.C.
This is the 17th consecutive year that Berger has been named to the list and the 12th year for Thaler. Hunt, whose advocacy efforts have impacted numerous regulatory amendments, was also recognized. Earlier this year, Hunt testified on housing finance reform efforts in front of the Senate Banking Committee.
Berger emphasized the accomplishment wouldn't be possible without the support of NAFCU's board, member credit unions, and a dedicated staff.
"NAFCU has continued to stay true to its original mission of lobbying for a legislative and regulatory environment that helps credit unions grow since its establishment more than 50 years ago," said Berger. "Our government affairs team works daily to maintain the strong relationships they have built with decision makers in Washington, and our credit union members ensure lawmakers and regulators understand the impacts their laws and rules have on credit unions.
"It is an honor to once again be recognized for our efforts, and we will continue to strongly advocate the interests of all federal- and state-chartered federally insured credit unions as their Washington Watchdog."
NAFCU’s award-winning advocacy team has helped lead the industry to victories on critical issues. Most recently, they ensured a credit union-opposed provision that would have treated big banks the same as credit unions when it comes to nominal leases was not included in the final 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, and they led efforts to delay the NCUA’s risk-based capital rule, pushing its implementation date back two years to Jan. 1, 2022.
