NAFCU to monitor tonight's GOP debate

Monitoring tonight's debate among Republican presidential candidates, NAFCU will watch for any discussion that arises relating to credit unions. The main debate, hosted by Fox News, begins at 9 p.m. Eastern in Des Moines, Iowa.

The debate will be the candidates' last before the Iowa caucuses on Monday.

"NAFCU continues to be active in the political process ensuring candidates are aware of the credit union issues," said NAFCU Director of Political Affairs Dan O'Brien. "The association looks forward to continuing its work with all federally elected officials on ways credit unions' regulatory burden can be eased."

The seven candidates participating in the 9 p.m. Eastern debate include Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush; New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.

Presidential candidate Donald Trump declined his invitation to participate in tonight's prime-time debate.

The four candidates in the 7 p.m. Eastern debate are: Carly Fiorina, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore.

Credit unions watching tonight's debate can follow along by using hashtag #GOPdebate on Twitter. NAFCU (@NAFCU) will also be monitoring the Twitter discussion.
