NAFCU MLI Day 2: Adaptive leadership, board roles, financial management
Credit union attendees of NAFCU'sManagement and Leadership Institutein Annapolis yesterday heard from speakers on adaptive leadership, roles of board and upper management, financial management and cross departmental communication.
Mike Lussier, president and CEO of Webster First FCU, discussed the need for credit union leaders to adapt their leadership practices when it comes to membership growth and staff management in order to lead successful institutions. Lussier also discussed his own journey as a credit union CEO.

Dave Boden, president and CEO of Hiway FCU, provided an in-depth review of the roles of credit union board members and upper management. He emphasized that having an open, clear path of communication between these groups will help foster a successful relationship as they lead their institutions.
Attendees also heard from Eric Mangham, senior vice president and CFO of Arkansas FCU. He discussed the basics of balance sheets and income statements, relevant ratios and trend analysis. Mangham also reviewed the financial impacts of growth and discussed pricing methods and strategies.
The last session of the day was led by NAFCU Vice President of Marketing Alicia Hosmer and NAFCU Director of Education Devon Lyon. Hosmer discussed best practices for running fast-paced departments at credit unions, while Lyon emphasized the importance of effective, efficient communication processes.
Tomorrow, attendees will receive an update on NAFCU from association Executive Vice President and COO Anthony Demangone.
Also presenting today are Bob Fisher, president and CEO of Grow Financial FCU; Kurt Thelen, president and CEO of Campco FCU; Annette Zimmerman, president and CEO of Primeway FCU; Stacey Hanke, communications expert and founder of Stacey Hanke, Inc.; and Kristi Edgar, vice president of marketing and communications of American 1 Credit Union.
