FTC names 2 more in suit over debt relief, credit scheme

The Federal Trade Commission named two new defendants in a phony debt relief and credit repair scheme that allegedly led consumers to non-existent federal programs to pay off their debts and fix their credit.

The scam operated under the names American Bill Pay and American Benefits Foundation, FTC said, and the case was originally brought in August 2014. FTC has continued to investigate the scam since that time and discovered two individuals, Sereika Savariau and Lawrence Goodison, whom it claims operated the scam from Jamaica.

This new complaint was updated in court and the case remains in litigation. FTC wants the scam permanently shut down and refunds for the consumers who bought into the scheme. The commission voted 5-0 to add the defendants' names to the case.
