FHFA finalizes 2022-2024 housing goals

HousesThe Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Wednesday issued a final rule for the government sponsored enterprises (GSEs), Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, that establishes housing goals for 2022-2024. The updated housing goals, first proposed by the FHFA in August, ensure that the GSEs responsibility promotes equitable access to affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families, minority communities, rural areas, and underserved populations.

The rule also established two new single-family home purchase subgoals to replace existing low-income areas subgoal, one of which targets minority communities, while the other targets low-income neighborhoods.

NAFCU Regulatory Affairs Counsel Aminah Moore also wrote to the FHFA prior to the finalization of the housing goals, sharing the association’s general support of the proposal, but urging the FHFA to work closely with the Treasury Department to fully remove limitations under the amendments to the Preferred Stock Purchase Agreements (PSPAs).
