CUs urged to press forward on MBL
April 9, 2012 – The Senate is in recess for one more week, and NAFCU is urging credit unions and their member small businesses to use this time to talk to senators about the positive impact more credit union member business lending can have on the nation's economy and on their local communities.
NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker, in his video message last week on S. 2231, the Small Business Lending Enhancement Act, said it's important that credit unions as well as the small businesses they serve to take an active role in ensuring lawmakers know the importance of a credit union member business lending cap lift to their credit union and small-business constituents.
Biz2Credit has a case study posted on its website, for example, about a prospective small-business owner, Eric McCarthy, who couldn't get a bank loan anywhere to start his Baskin-Robins franchise; he eventually got that loan from Mountain Air Credit Union. The Senate reconvenes April 16, opening the door to a vote at any time on S. 2231. NAFCU is encouraging its members to take advantage of the association's Take Action tools, or to contact senators by dialing 202-224-3121.
