CDFI Fund 'capacity building' training in June

May 7, 2013 – A series of training workshops for certified community development financial institutions – including credit unions – through the Treasury CDFI Fund's capacity building initiative begins next month and continues into October.

The series includes five three-day training sessions in cities throughout the United States. The program is designed to meet the needs of CDFI loan funds, credit unions and venture capital funds seeking to have a greater impact on their target markets.

The fund says CDFIs serving specific regions of persistent poverty that are traditionally underserved by financial institutions, such as Appalachia, the Colonias, and the Mississippi Delta, are especially encouraged to participate.

Workshops are free and will address growth and sustainability, partnerships and geographic and product expansion. The fund says a limited number of travel scholarships are available.

Workshops are scheduled as follows:

  • June 19-21 in Houston, Texas;
  • July 31-Aug. 2 in Nashville;
  • Aug. 14-16 in Detroit;
  • Sept. 25-27 in Los Angeles; and
  • Oct. 2-4 in New Orleans.

The workshops are free but have limited capacity. Apply online.
