![]() Fred Becker |
July 31, 2013 - Today is Fred Becker's last day as NAFCU president and CEO
after serving in the position for 13 1/2 years.
This month's Annual
Conference and Solutions Expo in Boston marked Becker's last as CEO. In his
farewell speech, he spoke of the highs and lows of his tenure at the
association and shared some of his personal battle with cancer – something he
faced as the credit union industry was dealing with the repercussions of the
financial crisis.
At the end of his speech, before thanking the
NAFCU staff, board members and his family, he quoted UCLA basketball coach
John Wooden, saying, "I've done my job. Now the rest is up to you."
NAFCU released news of Becker's planned retirement
in January. In that announcement, association Chair Mike Parsons, president
and CEO of First Source FCU in New Hartford, N.Y., credited Becker for
transforming NAFCU "into the aggressive high-powered advocacy group it is
today." He added, "NAFCU and the credit union industry have been significantly
enriched by Fred's contributions and leadership. He will be greatly
missed."
Becker is retiring with his wife, Barb, to Charlotte,
N.C.NAFCU thanks him for his years of dedicated service to the association
and the credit union industry and wishes him a happy and rewarding
retirement.
Tomorrow, B. Dan Berger, currently NAFCU's executive
vice president of government affairs, becomes president and CEO.
