My Career Advice? Look Down.
Written by Anthony Demangone
I have a dear friend who helps people with their careers.
He helps people network. Â He helps them tweak their resume to better highlight strengths. Â He helps them choose between competing job offers. Â He has them focus foward. Â His career advice is to look ahead and plan. Â This is where I disagree.
My career advice? Â Look down. Â Focus on where you are, and the job you occupy.Â
I'm not knocking a thoughtful, planned procession through one's career.  But in my humble opinion, the best thing you can do to get a great job is to do a great job.
Your performance and enhanced reputation will do you more than the finest resume printed on the finest paper.
