Annual Conference to feature Bethune, Williams

Credit union participants at NAFCU's 44th Annual Conference and Exhibition will learn how to "bridge people, ideas and solutions" from former Continental Airlines CEO Gordon Bethune and Pat Williams, marketing and promotional wizard for the Orlando Magic, two of this year's keynote speakers.

At the conference, June 28-July 2 in San Francisco, credit union representatives will get the latest on current legislative and regulatory trends, see the newest products and services, learn innovative marketing techniques and take away ideas for better serving their members.

Bethune will discuss how he pulled Continental Airlines from the brink of bankruptcy as described in his book, "From First to Worst." Continental had the lowest performance rating among all providers when Bethune became CEO joined in 1994, but his efforts transformed the unprofitable carrier into a thriving business. Bethune has been named one of the top 26 global managers by BusinessWeek magazine for the past two years and is a commentator for CNBC. From him, conference participants will learn how to create a culture that thrives in the face of economic adversity.

Williams, senior vice president of the NBA's Orlando Magic and author of more than 65 books, will reveal how the "magic" of teamwork and innovation can lead credit unions to success. He was the general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers for 12 years before taking on the general manager position at the Magic, which led to his current challenge as the team's senior vice president.

"Bethune and Williams share a common spirit of determination that all industry leaders should aspire to as they cultivate prosperity at their credit unions," said NAFCU President Fred Becker.

Also while attending the conference in San Francisco – selected as the top travel destination by Condé Nast Traveler in 2010 – conference-goers will enjoy a Friday night show celebrating the music of the Beatles. "1964…The Tribute," which Rolling Stone magazine called the "best Beatles tribute on earth," will take audiences on an unforgettable journey through the band's legendry touring years.
