Treasury’s Peretti talks cybersecurity and resilience at Caucus
On Wednesday at NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, attendees heard from U.S. Department of the Treasury Director of International Coordination and Mission Support Brian Peretti on cybersecurity, operational resilience, and the importance of transparency.
Peretti focused his remarks on improving national resilience from all types of cybersecurity threats, and the power of utilizing international allies to help address attacks from foreign “bad actors.”
“Risk resides with the people,” stated Peretti.
He continued by discussing core efforts that the Treasury Department’s Office of Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection is implementing to help protect American businesses and consumers, including information sharing partnerships, risk management plans, and having an information dialogue between both the private sector and the U.S. government.
“We believe in the fundamental belief of sharing information and remaining transparent in all ways possible,” reiterated Peretti.
In addition, he mentioned the importance of staff training on cybersecurity knowledge so companies and financial institutions have proactive plans set in place in the event a digital attack does take place. He mentioned that the Department will continue to work with NAFCU and other agencies to increase resiliency when it comes to cybersecurity in the United States.
