CU champion Rep. Perlmutter announces he will not seek reelection
Rep. Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo., Monday announced he would not be running for reelection this fall. Perlmutter has championed several NAFCU-supported bills, such as the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act and the Credit Union Governance Modernization Act (CUGMA), and has offered longstanding support for the credit union industry. Perlmutter currently serves as Chair of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions.
Perlmutter recently spoke to attendees during NAFCU's 2021 Congressional Caucus, where he touted the benefits of the SAFE Banking Act and discussed the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) Improvement Act of 2021.
In addition, Perlmutter participated in a Q&A for the November-December issue of The NAFCU Journal where he discussed being a leader on the marijuana banking issue and explained he believes credit unions "have gone above and beyond" to help their members throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
