NCUA Chairman Harper nominated for full term by President Biden

Todd HarperPresident Joe Biden Friday nominated Todd Harper for a six-year term on the NCUA Board. Harper, the board's only Democrat, has served as a board member since April 2019.

“NAFCU is consistently engaged with the NCUA Board, and we look forward to continuing to work with Todd Harper to ensure a positive regulatory environment for credit unions,” said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. “NAFCU is committed to ensuring that NCUA remains a strong, independent regulator for credit unions, and we will continue to advocate for the agency to be the primary regulator of credit unions.”

Biden named Harper as NCUA Board chair in January; Harper's previous term on the NCUA Board ended in April and he has been serving in a holdover capacity.

While serving on the board, Harper has focused on consumer protection issues, financial inclusion and diversity, data security, and ensuring safety and soundness as credit unions and their members have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Harper recently provided credit unions an overview of the current priorities at the agency before joining NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger for a one-on-one chat during NAFCU's State of the Industry virtual event in June.

NAFCU will continue to work closely with the NCUA Board to achieve an effective regulatory environment that supports a strong, safe, and sound credit union industry.
