Telling a story...

Written by Anthony Demangone

If you want to be effective, you have to do it.

We heard that again and again this week at NAFCU's Congressional Caucus. From Members of Congress. From staffers.

What is that "it"?

Tell a story.

Representatives said numbers and statistics are fine. But stories tend to stick. And stories get repeated.

There is something about a story. I'm sure many of you could re-tell the story of the ant and the grasshopper. Or recite the plots of of your favorite movies.

And just watch a presentation. When the speaker gets into statistics and data, eyes glaze over. When telling a story, people perk up.

So the next time you are making a presentation, think about stories. What story could you tell to help make your point?  And what is the story of your credit union? Who is the story teller?
