NAFCU, Senate Banking members talk CU priorities
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger and other members of the association's award-winning advocacy team were on Capitol Hill yesterday meeting with key legislators on issues currently affecting credit unions. This is part of the association's ongoing efforts on Capitol Hill to share its 2020 priorities and ensure legislative solutions allow the industry to thrive.
Berger, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt, Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler and Associate Directors of Legislative Affairs Janelle Relfe and Sarah Jacobs met with several members of the Senate Banking Committee, including:
- Chairman Mike Crapo, R-Idaho;
- Ranking Member Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio;
- Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont.;
- Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala.; and
- Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md.
Throughout Thursday's meetings, NAFCU and the senators discussed housing finance reform, efforts to create a national data privacy standard, the Senate's approach to BSA reforms following House-passage of NAFCU supported bills, and legislation to provide the NCUA with greater flexibility in setting loan maturity limits.
In addition to its meetings on Capitol Hill, NAFCU has shared the association’s priorities with Congress in letters to members of Congress, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., as well as high-profile administration officials and regulators, including President Donald Trump.
