Berger among leaders invited to global event on digital economy
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger yesterday attended the Global Inclusive Growth Summit hosted by Mastercard – a NAFCU Services Preferred Partner – and The Aspen Institute. The invite-only event brought together purpose-driven leaders from the private sector, government, and non-profits to explore challenges and strategies in building an inclusive digital economy.
"NAFCU greatly appreciates Mastercard's longtime and continued commitment to financial inclusion and education. We thank them for their continued support of NAFCU and NAFCU Services," said Berger.
While at the event, Berger also met separately with Mastercard President and CEO Ajay Banga, General Counsel Tim Murphy, and Senior Vice President of Public Policy Tucker Foote.
The summit "aims to foster a robust exchange of ideas, perspectives, and debates, and will balance wide-ranging representation between decision-makers and those diverse stakeholders affected by the decisions." This year's event focused on ways to advance economic growth, with the goal of "shin[ing] a spotlight on innovative, data-driven and commercially scalable solutions."
Notable speakers at the summit included:
- Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright;
- Former Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
- Business Roundtable CEO Josh Bolten;
- Women in the World founder Tina Brown;
- Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo.;
- Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu; and
- Vice Chair of Bank of America Anne Finucane.
As one of the top lobbyists in Washington, Berger helps direct NAFCU's advocacy strategy focused on creating a legislative and regulatory environment that allows credit unions to grow and better serve their members. The association advocates on issues including data security, field of membership and providing services to underserved communities, ensuring a level playing field with fintech, and innovation.
