Your Credit Union Weekend Reading Pile, Powered by NAFCU

Compiled by Anthony Demangone

I was driving down the road recently when Briggs yelled out from the back seat.

"Alexa - did the Nationals win last night?"

Silence.

I had to tell Briggs that Alexa didn't work in our car. He didn't miss a beat.

"Then we need a new car."

Hmmm.

Now, on to this week's reading pile.

  • Lending Club tanks after getting slammed for allegedly misleading customers. (MI)
  • In Detroit, a man threatens to jump from an overpass. Thirteen truckers refuse to let that happen. This is the good stuff! (WashPost)
  • Amazon is starting in-car deliveries. (WSJ)
  • We need your help. Please participate in the 2018 Credit Union Leadership Survey. It is anonymous and takes about 3 minutes. (Survey)
  • Consumer confidence is at an 18-year-high. (MW)
  • New-home sales in West cause surprising housing surge in March. (NAFCU Today)
  • Inside Southwest Airlines after disaster struck. (WSJ)
  • The top four most common ages in the U.S. are 26, 27, 25 and 28. (Calculated Risk)
  • There are more Americans with Amazon Prime (64%) than there are Americans who voted in 2016. (Ritholtz)
  • How big is wind power? This NYT article and video may blow your mind. (NYT)
  • Amazon's 2017 Letter to Shareholders. "One thing I love about customers is that they are divinely discontent. Their expectations are never static – they go up. It’s human nature. We didn’t ascend from our hunter-gatherer days by being satisfied. People have a voracious appetite for a better way, and yesterday’s ‘wow’ quickly becomes today’s ‘ordinary’." (DayOne)

One of these two people thinks the Demangone Clan needs a new car. The other is worried about paying for college and thinks the car is fine.
