A little weekend reading...
Compiled by Anthony Demango
The Nats are in first place, the Caps are rolling, Spring is in full swing, and the weekend is upon us. Â What more could you ask for?
Sit back, grab a cup of joe, and dig in to the best of this week's reading pile.
- Those millennials. Tons of articles about them, right? Here's another thing to add to the mix: they save a lot, and hate debt. (Main Street)
- You've read those articles about how the average American could not come up with $400 to pay for an emergency. Who are those "average" Americans? The Atlantic has an article this week shedding light on how a middle-class American who has authored five books and has children attending top-flight colleges falls into that category. I think this is a must-read - these are the people credit unions can help. (The Atlantic)
- Who are the most valuable FinTech companies? Â One outshines them by far... (Business Insider) Interesting, one company is off the list. A speaker at NAFCU's recent CEO's and Senior Executives Conference believes Facebook has by far the greatest chance to disrupt financials services. With Messenger, and more than 1 billion users, they want to help people move money.
- Andy Grove recently passed away. Many don't know his name. I wasn't very familiar with him. But he mentored giants - Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Eric Schmidt and more. Â The Post did a nice article on him. (Washington Post)
- Just how divided in Congress? Watch this video from Business Insider. (BI)
- Disruption spotlight: Â Airbnb's presence is hurting New York hotels. (New York Post)
- Disruption spotlight, part two: Uber overtakes rental cars within business travel. (Bloomberg)
- Come to downtown Nashville! I had a blast shooting this video. (CU Broadcast)
- I love these articles. Business Insider writes about what nine successful people would tell their younger selves about money. (Business Insider)
- 60 Minutes hacks congressman's phone. Â Chilling stuff. (The Hill)
- Innovation is grand. But don't forget about maintenance. (Aeon)
- Feedback is tough. We need it, but is it always useful? Godin does some heavy thinking on this issue. (Godin)
