You're from Latrobe?
Written by Anthony Demangone
This past weekend, I took my father to see the Steelers playoff game in Pittsburgh.
It was a wonderful weekend. We saw a play. Ate wonderful food. Saw the sights. And the Steelers won.
More than once, though, my father commented on how nice the hotel was.
And what did he comment on most?
The interactions with the waiters and bellmen at the Pittsburgh Renaissance.Â
My father casually mentioned that he was born in Latrobe, which is about 30 miles outside of Pittsburgh.Â
"You're from Latrobe?" one of the staff responded. My mom is from Greensburg. Â (A town near Latrobe.) And off they went, chatting about towns you and I never heard of. My Dad loved it. And so did I.
The hotel was nice. The rooms were great. But its people were phenomenal. They seemed to love other people. Talking to them. Helping them.Â
And that was what made the weekend fantastic.
Without great people, I'm not sure what you're left with.
