Pickles in Key West

A big part of a successful conference is networking. Content is wonderful. But networking can unlock opportunities and solve problems.

Want an example? 

During a meeting here in Key West, someone spoke about how wonderful "great" customer service is when you see it. 

This led another person at the table to mention "Give'm the pickle."  She said it was a video that trained people on how to give great customer service.

It wasn't a big room, so a few tables heard the comment about "Give'm the pickle." Three or four CEOs - people I respect a great deal - said that they were trained using the video or use it at their credit union. 

Now that gets your attention. 

So when I got back to my hotel room, I decided to look for the video. Here it is. 

Now, you aren't permitted to use the video through that link for training purposes. But you can preview it to see if it will work at your credit union. I watched the whole thing, and I'm going to ask Irene (my HR colleague) to look into buying it for NAFCU. It fits in on how we view member service.

That's the beauty of networking. Give'm the pickle was nowhere on the agenda. It was buried inside a meeting. During a break, through conversation, it bubbled to the service.

So please don't overlook networking events at your next conference. You never know when you'll find a gem. Or pickle.
