MLI's Leader of the Future: How do you compare?
Written by Anthony Demangone
Yesterday, John Spence kicked off NAFCU's 2013 Management and Leadership Conference by leading a full-day workshop. Â Titled "The Leader of Tomorrow," the workshop forced attendees to wade through a ton of leadership development before doing a leadership self-assessment. Â
The highlight of the first day was an exercise that forced the entire group to create the perfect leader. Think about it: Imagine you asked 80 credit union managers what they look for in a leader? Wouldn't you want to know what that looks like? Â Wonder no more...
- Communication. A great leader would demand robust, open communication that goes both ways.
- Shared vision and purpose. This leader would ensure that everyone within the credit union has a shared vision and purpose.
- Clear expectations and goals. Â Everyone would have clear expectations about what the credit union was doing, as well as themselves individually.
- Integrity, honesty, authenticity, consistency. The  leader would be chock full of all of these qualities.Â
- Passion. The leader would  inspire others
- The leader would be devoted to getting the right people into the right positions. The leader would understate team member strengths and weaknesses.Â
- Courage.Â
- Trust.
- Accountability. This leader would hold others and himself/herself accountable.Â
- Teamwork and collaboration. The leader would foster both.
- Recognition. This leader would dispense the right amount in the right way.
So, how do you measure up?Â
As usual, John Spence was as entertaining as he was inspiring.
