A little weekend reading...

Written by Anthony Demangone

Another week has come and gone. I can't believe we're in August already. Back to school shopping has begun for Kate and Briggs, and I wonder where all the time has gone. There is talk of football, and pennant races in baseball. As they say, time marches on.

Now, on to the best of my reading pile from this week.

  • The U.S. Congress is on August recess. Pay them a visit. Or better yet, invite them over to a branch for a photo opportunity. Even better yet - when you see them, tell them your story, and what keeps you up at night. (NAFCU)
  • Only 48% of Americans could handle a $400 emergency expense without selling something or borrowing money. (Federal Reserve)
  • File these two under the WHAT? category.
    • German Interest Rates go negative. (Business Insider)
    • AOL still has 2.3 million dial-up subscribers. And they are profitable. (Quartz)
  • Simple, guaranteed, easy and free. (Godin)
  • A fascinating thing is happening at a Massacusetts grocery store chain. (ABC News)
  • Stocks are down, but the weekly unemployment claims report keeps getting better. (Calculated Risk)
  • Goldman Sachs has an idea of what will happen when the Fed raises rates. (WSJ)  Also, what top economists and investors see next year. (Investors.com)
  • Analytics without action. (Godin)
  • Demoted in two weeks. (Leadership Freak)
  • Why everyone should take vacaction. (Washington Post)
  • Ever wonder about those strange work from home job offers? This article may terrify you. (Krebs)
