An Instagram Lesson at 28,000 Feet
Written by Anthony Demangone
"Do you all have time for a story," a voice said.
I was in the back of a Southwest jet. In the back because I forgot about the importance of checking in exactly 24 hours before my flight started.
It turns out that it was the Captain.
He told a story of how he once found a box full of old slides and negatives that he had taken through his career as a pilot. Fun places. Happy faces. And the like.
He told some friends, and they wanted copies. So he said, give me your business card, and I'll email them out. He did the same with Southwest passengers he met who learned that he loved to take photos.
Well, that didn't work. Too many emails. Too many late night phone calls.
So he eventually moved on to Instagram, where he could share the photos with anyone who was interested.
He's known as Captain Selfie. And here's one of the many photos he took yesterday. If you see a bald guy way in the back, that's me.
So, Â you may think - who would care to find these photos? He has nearly 3,500 followers. And that photo above? Forty-seven people have "liked" it so far.
He found a way to interact with his customers. To involve them. In his photos, I see a lot of smiles.Â
Nothing wrong with that.
