Great Efficiency Ideas...From the Federal Government; We're Hiring

Did any of you chuckle when you read the title of this post?
If so, why?
We can fill our minds up with so many biases and stereotypes that we become blinded to the possibilities before us. Â Why can't great ideas for efficiency come from the federal government, or your front lines?
Case in point? The General Services Administration recently asked its employees for cost savings ideas.  It resulted in $5.5 million in annual savings. Just look at this gem...

The GSA will also set its printers to print double-sided by default. Jennifer Roth, who works for the Pacific Rim region, and Goran Simic, an electrical engineer based in Chicago, suggested the change. Double-sided printing will save the GSA $2.7 million, said Mafara Hobson, the GSAâÂÂs press secretary. The printing idea will be implemented government-wide, Hobson said.
