The Empire Strikes Back

Things had passed Wal-Mart, leaving them in the dust.

After years and years of growth and success, Amazon and other online retailers seemed to have the edge.

Not so fast.

Wal-Mart just opened a new type of store that could be a game-changer. A gas-and-grocery hybrid. It is a gas station that offers some basic groceries and grab-and-go items. But...it also is a hub where you can pick up groceries that you ordered earlier that day. Order by 1, pick up by 5. And pump your gas while an employee loads them into your car.

Now, that idea has legs!

It just goes to show you that never should count a competitor out. There are a ton of smart people at Wal-Mart, and this idea seems brilliant at the surface.

Competition - I love it!

That's an old picture of Kate. It is my favorite photo of her. Now, you may have a wonderful photo of your daughter, but I'll like mine more. And I'm sure you'll like yours more, too. You should!

I saw this photo this weekend, and it got me thinking about credit unions. Not everything can be graphed. Reason and logic only go so far. Emotion, connection and feelings run deeper and are much stronger.

We have a better mouse trap with credit unions.  But I'm not sure we can woo everyone with charts, lists of benefits and the power of member-ownership. We have to dig deeper sometimes.

Here's a video I saw recently that taps into that. (Now, you may not agree with the politics of the video. But I did see a power based on emotion and connection. What do you think about it?)
