Regulatory & Legislative Assistant

The National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU) seeks a Regulatory & Legislative Assistant to provide support to the advocacy efforts of the Association.

Who you are:

You are a self-starter with strong research, writing, and organizational skills, who enjoys learning new things and is willing to tackle both small and large tasks.  You have an interest in the governmental process, including legislative, regulatory, and political developments, as well as an interest in credit unions and what they offer to the community. You are technologically savvy.  You have the ability to independently prioritize a varied workload, balance multiple tasks, and projects without missing deadlines, and work efficiently while generating high quality work product. You thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and take pride in helping others.

What you'll do:

The Regulatory and Legislative Assistant has the responsibility to provide substantial technical support, including website maintenance and modifications, desktop publishing, data collection and compilation, and report generation.  You will assist with the production of Regulatory Alerts, comment letters, letters to the Hill, and other communications, including member telephone calls and emails.  You will assist both the Regulatory and Legislative Affairs divisions in representing NAFCU at outside meetings, hearings, and conferences, as well as setting up those meetings, preparing minutes, and producing committee correspondence.  You'll help with our grassroots efforts, as well as have the primary responsibility for circulating news to the entire Government Affairs group on a daily basis and updating the staff as relevant regulatory and legislative developments occur.  You'll also have a role in helping to plan and execute our annual Congressional Caucus.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational, grammatical, and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Office Suite, with the ability to learn and use other computer software.
  • Knowledge of financial institution operations and regulations; credit union specific knowledge and experience is a plus.
  • A general understanding of governmental, legislative, and political processes is required; previous Capitol Hill, Agency, or political experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team, as well as the ability to work independently on assigned duties and meet firm deadlines.
