The Internet - A Double-Edged Sword
No one loves the Internet more than the Compliance Guy. With the click of a button, I have access to practially every law, regulation and guidance document. Ah, but the Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. When the internet goes down, I sometimes feel like Samson without his hair. (Sure, I'm bald. But I can still use the analogy.)  Without access to the world-wide web, I used to head to the coffee station and say a prayer to the Patron Saint of Internet Access.
The solution? Steve Van Beek, one of my coworkers, gave me this tip about a month ago. Save a copy of NCUA's rules and regulations, as well as other go-to documents, to your computer. NCUA has a nearly-complete set of its regulations here. (Note that its most recent final regulations are not incorporated for a few months.) You can open the document and then save it. You may want to save copies of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, and other regulations or laws that would be important to your shop.Â
This way, if the Internet goes down, you'll still have a few arrows in your quiver. And sometimes that's all it takes.
