Advocacy doesn’t take a recess
Congress just wrapped up the final – and jam packed – legislative session before heading back to their states and districts for the August recess.
While Washington, D.C., may become a ghost town, NAFCU is full steam ahead, ensuring we are working on behalf of our members and planting the legislative priority seeds for the final quarter of 2023.
Over the course of July, we successfully fought for credit unions by advocating against the Credit Card Competition Act, or the Big Box Bailout, from being an amendment in the must pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This legislation takes money from hard working Americans struggling to balance their budgets and transfers it to the pockets of big box retailers. The NDAA should not be a vehicle for measures that harm consumers like this bill and NAFCU pledges to keep fighting this issue on behalf of credit unions and consumers.
We are entering an exciting time with Congressional Caucus just around the corner. Happening Sept. 10-13, we have a great line up of speakers, including political strategist, commentator, and former Interim Chair of the Democratic National Committee Donna Brazile alongside former White House Political Director under President Ronald Reagan, Republican National Committee Chairman, and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour as the keynote speakers this year. We are entering a general election cycle and the political climate in D.C. and around the country is more important than ever.
Additionally, we have an exceptional lineup of speakers from Congress and the Administration, including the esteemed House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and other influential policymakers, regulators, NAFCU staff, and key stakeholders.
Advocacy doesn’t take a break and we hope you will join us in September when lawmakers are back in session to bring credit union stories and priorities to the forefront on Capitol Hill.
