Clyburn, Clay, Laster join Caucus speaker list

Reps. James Clyburn, D-S.C., and William Lacy Clay, D-Mo., and NCUA Director of the Office of Consumer Protection Gail Laster have joined the growing speaker list scheduled for NAFCU's Congressional Caucus this month in Washington.

The Caucus, slated Sept. 14-17 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, will feature sessions and discussions on the most important legislative and regulatory issues facing the credit union industry today and techniques for effectively communicating those concerns with legislators and regulators.

Clyburn is the assistant democratic leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving as the leadership liaison to the Appropriations Committee, one of the Democratic Caucus' primary liaisons to the White House. He is also chair of the recently formed House Democrats' Democratic Outreach & Engagement Task Force.

Clay is a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and is the ranking member on the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee. He also serves on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Laster is in charge of NCUA's fair lending, consumer protection, and field of membership programs and policies.

  • Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., member of the Senate Banking Committee;
  • Sen. David Vitter, R-La., chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship;
  • Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., both the U.S. House Chief Deputy Majority Whip and vice chairman of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., member of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., member of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator of the Small Business Administration;
  • Jennifer Shasky-Calvery, director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network; and
  • Donald Layton, CEO of Freddie Mac.

The Congressional Caucus, sponsored by NAFCU Services Corporation, MasterCard and CUNA Mutual Group, is open to NAFCU members and nonmembers.
