Berger talks political landscape at Caucus delegate breakfast

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger discussed the current political landscape, giving a recap of the composition of the 114th Congress and looking ahead to possible outcomes of the 2016 elections during a delegate breakfast at the association's Congressional Caucus Tuesday.

Berger encouraged credit union attendees to talk about the regulatory burden they face with all their lawmakers, Republicans and Democrats, to make sure their story is heard. He told attendees to be specific with lawmakers on how issues affect their credit union members – lawmakers' constituents.

Berger also provided attendees with data on federally insured credit unions' mortgage lending, auto lending, member business lending and other credit union trends to assist them in their meetings with lawmakers.

Credit unions are known for their culture of trust, Berger said during the breakfast. He encouraged attendees to embrace and market that culture – both to their members of Congress and future credit union members.

Following yesterday's private breakfast, Caucus attendees heard keynote speakers former Reps. Tom Davis, R-Va., and Martin Frost, D-Texas, offer their views on what could help solve the current legislative stalemate.

NAFCU's Congressional Caucus runs through Thursday and is open to members and nonmembers.
