Heck, Miller confirmed for Defense CU Summit

Reps. Joe Heck, R-Nev., and Jeff Miller, R-Fla., have been confirmed as speakers for NAFCU's Defense Credit Union Summit, which will be held Sept. 16 in conjunction with the association's Congressional Caucus in Washington.

The Defense Credit Union Summit will feature military-focused speakers and discussions of the issues facing credit unions that serve members of the military.

Heck serves as the chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel and is on both the Permanent Committee on Intelligence and the Education and Workforce Committee. Heck previously served as a physician, Army Reservist and volunteer firefighter. Heck has also supported NAFCU efforts to help limit the negative impact of the Defense Department's Military Lending Act regulation and prevent unintended consequences for credit unions and servicemembers.

Miller is the chairman of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee and also a senior member of the Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Committee on Intelligence. He previously served as vice chairman of the NATO Subcommittee on Transatlantic Defense and Security Cooperation. Miller is also the sponsor of NAFCU-backed H.R. 1133, which would exclude veterans' loans from the member business lending cap.

NAFCU's Congressional Caucus is scheduled for Sept. 14-17 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. Former Reps. Tom Davis, R-Va., and Martin Frost, D-Texas, are set to deliver keynote remarks for the conference; they will focus on how credit union advocates can work with a divided Congress.
